Baltic Birch plywood has traditionally only been available in a 5’x5’ sheet format. Over the past ten years, the majority of new investments in Russian Birch plywood mills have been in adding new 4’x8’ production lines. Today we offer wide range of thickness in a 10’x5’ format to allow our customers even greater flexibility in design and production. These large format Baltic Birch plywood panels are produced with whole piece veneer layup and are never scarf jointed. Our 10’x5’ panels are produced with a no-added-Urea-formaldehyde, Phenolic resin. The same glue used in all of our marine plywood panels.

Wolstenholme International has established partnerships with coating companies at each of our warehouse locations around the country. We offer Flat line UV finishing that can be applied to any of our plywood products in either 5’x5’ or 4’x8’ sheets.

Ultraviolet curing of panels is a cost effective alternative to traditional solvent based spray finishing methods and contains no volatile organic compounds. UV coating of plywood offers an attractive and durable finish and reduces finishing time and increases the productivity of our customers.

Custom tints can be achieved, based on your specifications, to match a desired finish color or gloss.

PLATFORM

Baltic Birch has long been the plywood of choice for applications such as drawer sides, table tops, store fixtures, and children’s toys, where the exposed multi-ply edge offers is visible and requires no additional edge banding. In addition to the multi-ply construction and uniform thickness of core veneers, being aesthetically attractive, this unique construction offers unmatched strength and stability.

North American plywood manufacturers and custom laminators now see the benefits of using Baltic Birch as a core material. We have developed a true platform panel from Russia that is manufactured with the face and back veneer orientation running the width of the panel, so our customers can re-veneer the panel with wood veneer or high pressure laminate, keeping the long grain face veneer at a right angle to the core veneer. The panel is produced slightly oversized in a 98”x49” format to allow the customer to trim the panel back to the standard 48”x96” format after lamination. The thickness of our Baltic Birch panels is manufactured slightly under standard finished thickness to allow for the panel to be built up to finished thickness once a core and balancing back veneer is applied. Baltic Birch platforms have the same tight tolerances that are seen in standard Baltic Birch panels, but special tolerances can be arranged.

Baltic Birch platforms are manufactured with no added Urea Formaldehyde glue, and the same waterproof glue line used in our marine plywood. Baltic Birch platforms are available from each of our warehouse distribution facilities and are available with as FSC certified upon request.

BENDING POPLAR

Poplar plywood produced in northern Italy has carved out a unique niche in the North American market. Unlike Poplar found in other countries, Italian Poplar is extremely white in color and can be stained to take on the appearance of many exotic hardwoods.

When manufactured in 3mm thickness, Italian Poplar is used as a flexible panel that can bend into desired shapes without rupturing the grain of the face veneers, so the panel can be easily stained, painted, or laminated after being formed to meet the desired radius. These thin panels can be used in multiple sheets to achieve thicker curved components or singularly as a face covering for curved surfaces or framework. Available in both 4’x8’ and 8’x4’ face veneer grain orientation, to offer flexibility in use for any curved component application.

Due to the extremely low density of the Poplar plywood produced in Italy, thicker panels are used in application where weight is a primary concern. Lightweight Poplar plywood is produced as a multi-ply panel that offers both, stability and strength, and a lower price point to other engineered options such as honeycomb or foam-core panels.

In additional to traditional applications such as the model making, children’s toys, and furniture, Italian Poplar plywood is commonly used in yacht and R.V. interiors to reduce weight and allow for heavier decorative finishes, such as marble, metal, or denser wood species such as Mahogany.

Manufactured to the British Standard 6566 (BS6566), by the same factory in South East Asia that produces our Hydrotek marine Meranti plywood. Aquatek marine plywood is manufactured with Keruing faces to ensure both strength and durability, while the core is comprised of uniform color light red Meranti to maintain the strength and durability to weight ratio. The use of slightly thicker core veneers allow us to offer this panel as an inexpensive alternative to both European and North American marine plywood products, while still being produced to the British Marine plywood standard.

The term “Marine plywood” is synonymous with quality. While marine plywood is typically used in boat construction, architects will often specify marine grade plywood for exterior or high moisture applications, when only the highest quality panels will perform.

As part of our full line of marine plywood options, Wolstenholme International has designed a marine plywood panel that is manufactured in accordance with the British Standard 1088. Our Hydrotek marine Meranti makes use of the technical properties that can only be found in tropical hardwoods from South East Asia. Select Keruing faces are used for both aesthetic beauty and high impact strength, while the core is comprised of uniform color light red Meranti to maintain the strength and durability to weight ratio. Hydrotek marine Meranti is manufactured with more ply’s than traditional marine plywood produced in North America to ensure both stability and strength. Virtually free of any core voids, high quality core veneers, and Phenolic resin reduces the chance for the panel to delaminate.

Available in all thickness from each of our warehouse locations, and through our network of distributors, we can fulfill your marine plywood requirements no matter how large or small.
